Set up candidate templates (candidate appearance)

A candidate appearance (resume template) decides which sections and fields show on a resume, and in which order. Set it up under user menu > Settings > Candidate appearance. You can have several and pick one per export.

Who it's for: Owners and Admins. Members can pick a candidate appearance when they export, but can't change it.

Edit a candidate appearance

  1. Open the user menu (your name, bottom left) and click Settings.

  2. Under Candidate settings, click Candidate appearance. A new account has one, Default configuration.

  3. Click Edit on the appearance you want to change, or Create new candidate appearance (bottom left) to start a new one.

  4. On the Candidate profile tab, click a section on the right to select it. Tick a field in the list on the left to add it to that section. Use Search fields… to find a field.

Result

Every resume exported or shared with this candidate appearance shows the sections and fields you set.

Profile and form: what's the difference

  • Candidate profile is the resume: what your client sees on the export or share link.

  • Candidate form is the edit screen: the fields you can fill in when you click Edit on a profile.

  • The two tabs are separate. A field must be on the Candidate form tab to be editable, and on the Candidate profile tab to show on the resume. Add it to both.

  • On the Candidate profile tab, the full-width toggle lets a field use the whole width. On the Candidate form tab, the optional toggle marks a field as optional.

Set defaults for hiding details

The Candidate data control tab sets which details are shown by default: candidate name, general info, work experience, education and certificates. People can still change these per export under Control candidate data. See Create an anonymous resume.

Use more than one candidate appearance

  • Duplicate copies an appearance. Edit the copy, for example for another division or an anonymous version.

  • One appearance is the default. It's preselected on the export screen. The current default shows Already set as default, and you can't delete it. To make another appearance the default, select it and click Set as company default.

  • When you export, pick an appearance under Select candidate appearance. See Choose the branding, template and recruiter contact for an export.

  • On a profile, Preview style shows the profile in another candidate appearance.

Good to know

  • Missing a field? Create it in Settings > Field management, then add it to the appearance. A new field isn't added to any appearance on its own. See Add a custom field.

  • The Candidate header section has a "Company Logo" spot. Display company logo in your branding controls it. See Put your logo on resumes.

  • The look of the resume (logo, font, layout, colors) is set in the branding, not here. See Change the resume layout, font and dates.

Common questions

  • How do I remove the Skills section from the resume? Edit the appearance, remove the Skills field on the Candidate profile tab and click Save.

  • How do I move Education above Employment History? Drag the Education section above it on the Candidate profile tab.

  • I added a field but I can't fill it in. Add it on the Candidate form tab too.

  • Can we have two templates, for example for a new division? Yes. Duplicate the appearance, edit the copy and pick it when you export.
