Create an anonymous resume

To create an anonymous (blind) resume, use Control candidate data on the export screen: show initials or the job title instead of the name, and switch off phone, email and other details. Then change the file name by hand.

Who it's for: Owners, Admins and Members, on a plan with Resume Builder.

Steps

  1. Open the candidate's profile, click Export, then Download PDF or Download DOC.

  2. Scroll down to Control candidate data.

  3. Under Primary name, choose how the name shows. The options are First name only (e.g. Tony), First name + Last name initials (e.g. Tony S.), Full name (e.g. Tony Stark), Job title (e.g. Java Developer) and Initials only (e.g. T.S.).

Primary name options, "Initials only (e.g. T.S.)" highlighted
  4. Under General info, switch off Phone, Email and, if needed, Candidate location. Leave Original CV / Resume off.

  5. Under Work experience, Education and Certificates, switch off what your client shouldn't see, for example Employer name.

Anonymous preview "T. S." with Phone, Email and Employer name switched off
  6. Go to Set file name for export and remove the candidate's name. The file name doesn't change when you pick a name option. By default it's your brand name, the candidate's full name and the job title.

Set file name for export highlighted
  7. Check the preview, then click Download PDF (or Download DOCX for Word).

Result

The resume shows the skills and experience, without the details you switched off. With Initials only, Taylor Sample shows as "T. S.".

Remove names from the text

The toggles hide whole fields. If the candidate's name or employer appears inside a text, such as the professional summary or a job description, edit the text:

  1. On the profile, click Edit.

  2. Click Ask AI in the text field and choose Anonymize details.

Ask AI menu with "Anonymize details" highlighted
  3. Read the result and click Replace selection, then click Update profile.

Want to keep the named version too? Use More > Duplicate profile first, and anonymize the copy.

Credits: Editing the text counts as an edit. The next export of that profile uses 1 credit. A duplicated profile also uses 1 credit on its first export.

Good to know

  • The Control candidate data choices apply to this export only.

  • The same options are under Preview style on the profile page.

  • The original resume file can't be anonymized. Keep Original CV / Resume off, because it shows everything.

  • The candidate's photo still shows on an anonymous resume. To hide it, export with a branding where Display candidate avatar is No, hide avatar. See Add a candidate photo.

  • An Owner or Admin can set these options as defaults on the Candidate data control tab of a candidate appearance. See Set up candidate templates (candidate appearance).

Common questions

  • How do I remove the job title under the candidate's name? In Control candidate data, switch off Secondary name.

  • Can I show only the first name and the last name's initial? Yes. Under Primary name, choose First name + Last name initials (e.g. Tony S.).

  • The downloaded file still has the candidate's name. The file name doesn't follow the name option. Change it in Set file name for export before you download. See Change the file name of an exported resume.

  • Can I send the client the original CV without the contact details? No. The original file can't be edited. Send the formatted resume with contact details switched off.
