Create a candidate by uploading a resume

Upload a resume and Candidately creates the candidate and a first profile, with the details read from the file.

Who it's for: Owners, Admins and Members on any Resume Builder plan, including the trial. Before you start: have the resume file on your computer. Creating candidates doesn't use credits.

Using Bullhorn? Import the candidate from Bullhorn instead of uploading the resume again. See Import a candidate from Bullhorn.

Steps

  1. In the left menu, click Candidates.

  2. Click Add candidate at the top right, then click Create candidate and profile by uploading.

  3. The file window opens straight away. Pick the resume. To add several candidates, pick several files at once.

  4. Wait while the Parsing resumes panel at the bottom right reads the file. It can take up to a minute per resume.

  5. When a file is done, the panel shows a check mark and the candidate's name, then closes by itself. The new candidate is at the top of All candidates. You don't need to reload the page.

What happens next

The candidate is saved with one profile. From the profile you can edit it, export it as PDF or Word, or share it by link.

Good to know

  • The menu says "Upload a PDF or DOC file", but more types work: Word, RTF, ODT, TXT, MD and images (PNG, JPG, BMP, GIF, TIFF). See How resume parsing works.

  • Each file can be up to 25 MB. You can add up to 50 files at once.

  • You can also drag files onto the All candidates list.

  • Uploads count toward your company's resume parsing limit. They don't use credits.

Troubleshooting

Common questions

Should I upload PDF or Word? Both work well. Text-based PDF and Word files give the best results.

Can I upload scanned resumes or photos of a resume? Yes. Candidately reads them with text recognition. Check the profile afterwards.

Can I upload several resumes at once? Yes, up to 50 files at a time. Each file becomes its own candidate.
