Get started with Resume Builder

Resume Builder turns a candidate's resume into a branded PDF or Word (.docx) file. You'll find it under Candidates: upload a resume, check the profile, then export it.

Who it's for: Everyone in your company. Owners, Admins and Members can upload, edit and export. Before you start: your plan needs to include Resume Builder. Every free trial does.

There's no menu item called "Resume Builder". Everything happens on the Candidates page and on each candidate's profile.

Steps

1. Open your candidates

  1. Click Candidates in the left menu, then the All candidates tab.

On a new account you'll see one sample candidate, Emma Johnson. You can use her to try every step below before you upload your own resumes.

2. Upload a resume

  1. Click Add candidate, then Create candidate and profile by uploading.

Add candidate menu open, "Create candidate and profile by uploading" highlighted
  2. Pick the resume file in the window that opens. You can pick several at once.

Candidately reads the resume and fills in the profile. A Parsing resumes panel shows the progress at the bottom right. It can take up to a minute per resume. The new candidate appears at the top of All candidates.

Tip: You can also drag resume files onto the candidates list. PDF, Word, RTF, TXT, ODT and image files work, up to 25 MB each.

3. Check and edit the profile

  1. Click the candidate's name. On the Profiles tab, hover over the profile and click Open.

  2. Compare the two sides: Candidate profile on the left is what you'll export, Original CV / Resume on the right is the file you uploaded.

  3. To change anything, click Edit. Make your changes, then click Update profile.

In the editor, Ask AI can rewrite or shorten text, and you can add a recruiter note.

4. Export

  1. Click Export, then Download PDF. For Word, click Download DOC. To send a link instead, click Share candidate profile (see Share a candidate profile by link).

Export menu open with Download PDF, Download DOC and Share candidate profile
  2. For a download, the Export candidate screen opens. Check the preview. Pick a branding and candidate appearance (resume template) if you have more than one.

  3. Click Download PDF (or Download DOCX for Word).

Credits: The first export of a profile uses 1 credit. Downloading it again is free until someone edits the profile. See How credits work.

Common questions

Is Resume Builder part of our plan?

Open a profile and click Export. If you see Download PDF, you have it. If you see "Upgrade your Plan" instead, your plan doesn't include it. Ask us in the chat.

Do I need Bullhorn to use it?

No. You can upload resumes and export them without any ATS connected.

Is there a video or tour?

New accounts get a welcome tour that walks through the sample candidate and ends with a getting-started video.
