Change the file name of an exported resume

Type the name you want under Set file name for export on the export screen, then download. There's no setting for a company-wide naming pattern, so you change it per export.

Steps

  1. Open the candidate's profile, click Export, then Download PDF or Download DOC.

  2. Pick the branding and the other export settings first.

  3. Under Set file name for export, type the name you want. The .pdf or .docx ending stays as it is.

  4. Click Download PDF (or Download DOCX for Word).

Note: If you change Select branding after you type the name, the file name goes back to the default. Type it again.

Result

The file downloads with the name you typed.

The default name

The default is the brand name, the candidate's name and their job title. For example: "Talentbird - Morgan Example – Payroll Manager.pdf".

  • The brand name is the Company/Brand display name of the branding. If the branding has no display name, your company name is used.

  • The default name doesn't change when you change Primary name in Control candidate data. With Initials only, it still shows the full name. Edit it by hand.

Good to know

  • To shorten the company part of every file name, an Owner or Admin can change the Company/Brand display name in Settings > Branding. See Set up your branding.

  • For an anonymous resume, always check the file name before you download. See Create an anonymous resume.

  • Changing the file name doesn't use a credit.

Common questions

  • Can we change the default file name to a shorter format? Not as a saved pattern. Change it on each export, or shorten the Company/Brand display name in the branding.

  • Can I remove the job title from the file name? Yes. Delete it under Set file name for export before you download.

  • I made the resume anonymous, but the file name still shows the candidate's name. The file name doesn't follow the anonymous settings. Type a new name before you download.
