Set up applicant statuses

Set the stages applicants move through, their order and color, and the wording candidates see in their portal.

Who can do this: Owners and Admins.

Statuses are the stages applicants move through. They're the same for all your boards and jobs, and you start with five:

New

Where every confirmed applicant lands.

In review

Your team is looking at them.

Submitted to client

Put forward to the client.

Hired

Placed.

Rejected

Not going further.

Change the order

New applicants start on the status at the top of the list.

  1. Drag the handle on the left of a row to move it up or down.

The new order is saved right away.

Add a status

  1. Click New status.

  2. Type the name.

Applicant statuses: 5 statuses listed and new status Interview, Candidate-facing labels, Customize labels per language
  3. Click the color square and pick a color.

  4. Click Save changes.

You see Status created.

Delete a status

  1. Click the status.

  2. Click Delete status.

  3. Click Delete to confirm.

  4. If applicants are on the status, pick the status they move to and click Delete and move.

You see Status deleted. Applications keep their history. You always need at least one status.

Choose what candidates see

Your status names can stay internal. Candidates see your own wording in their portal, like "Application received" instead of "New".

  1. Click a status.

  2. Click Customize labels per language.

  3. Enter the wording candidates see.

Applicant status In review, Candidate-facing labels: English label We're reviewing your application, Add language
  4. If your board also runs in German, click Add language and enter the German wording.

  5. Click Save changes.

You see Status saved. Every language you add needs a label before you can save.

When you change an applicant's status, Candidate sees shows the wording in their portal.

Good to know

  • Statuses stay in Candidately. Moving an applicant to another status doesn't change their submission in Bullhorn, and changes in Bullhorn don't come back. Bullhorn gets one status, when the applicant is pushed: your Default submission status. See Connect Bullhorn to your Job Board.

  • Changing a status doesn't email the candidate. They see it when they sign in.

  • Your team changes an applicant's status from the Status menu on the applicant. See Review and manage applicants.
