Where candidate details come from: CV or Bullhorn

A candidate's details on a job submission list come from their CV, from Bullhorn if you import them from there, and from anything you type in yourself.

A candidate's details on a job submission list come from their CV, from Bullhorn if you import them from there, and from anything you type in yourself.

Who this is for: Everyone who adds candidates to job submission lists. Field mapping is set up by an Owner.

From the CV

When you upload a CV, Candidately reads it and fills in the profile: name, job title, email, phone, LinkedIn, summary, skills, years of experience, location, employment history, education, certificates and languages. See How CV parsing works.

From Bullhorn

When you import a candidate from Bullhorn, the profile also gets details from the Bullhorn record: name, job title, email, phone, address and skills.

Your company can bring in more Bullhorn fields, for example salary, availability or a Bullhorn custom field. An Owner sets this up once under Settings > Integrations > Bullhorn > Candidate field mapping. See Map Bullhorn fields to candidate fields.

When the CV and Bullhorn disagree

When a candidate comes from Bullhorn, the Bullhorn details go in first. Then the CV is read:

Detail

Which one is used

Name

Bullhorn

Email and phone

The CV, if it has them. Otherwise Bullhorn

Job title

The CV (its title, or the latest job in the work history). Otherwise Bullhorn

Location

Bullhorn, if it has one. Otherwise the CV

Skills

Bullhorn skills stay. CV skills are added or suggested, depending on Candidate skills behavior

Mapped custom fields

Bullhorn

Work history, education, summary, languages, certificates

The CV (Bullhorn doesn't send these)

From you

A CV never fills Availability in, Rate / Compensation, Open to remote jobs or the places a candidate would relocate to. Type them in yourself, or have them mapped from Bullhorn. Willingness to relocate can come from Bullhorn.

Click Edit on the candidate, add what your client should see and click Update candidate. See Edit a candidate and the AI recruiter note.

When you replace the CV

Replacing a CV asks what to do with the details already on the profile:

  • Overwrite all fields: replace the details with what's in the new CV. The name, the location (if set) and custom fields that have a value stay. A blank in the new CV never empties a field.

  • Update only empty fields: keep your edits and fill in only what's missing. The job title, skills and custom fields are still updated from the new CV.

  • Do not update: swap the file and change nothing else.

Good to know

  • Edits you make in Candidately aren't written back to the Bullhorn record.

  • A field only shows to your client if it's in the list's Candidate appearance. Empty fields aren't shown.

  • Whether skills from the CV are added, suggested or left out depends on Candidate skills behavior. See Choose which skills are added from a CV.
