Attach documents or the original resume to an export

On a PDF export you can add the candidate's original resume and other documents, such as references, to the same PDF. You choose the order of the files.

Who it's for: Owners, Admins and Members, on a plan with Resume Builder. Before you start: this works for PDF exports only. Word (.docx) exports can't include attachments.

Add the original resume

  1. Open the candidate's profile, click Export, then Download PDF.

  2. Under Control candidate data > General info, switch on Original CV / Resume. It's off by default.

Control candidate data with the Original CV / Resume toggle highlighted
  3. "Original Resume" is added to the end of the Sort files list. To put it before the formatted resume, drag it up.

Attach other documents

  1. On the export screen, go to Attach documents to the export.

  2. Next to "Upload and attach additional PDFs (optional)", click Select file and pick the files. You can pick several at once. Each file can be PDF or DOC, up to 10 MB.

"Upload and attach additional PDFs" with Select file
  3. A Sort files list appears. "Generated Resume" (your formatted resume) is first, then your files in the order you uploaded them.

  4. To change the order, drag a file by its handle. To remove an uploaded file, click its X.

Sort files list: Generated Resume, two attachments, Original Resume, drag handles highlighted
  5. Click Download PDF.

Result

You download one PDF with the formatted resume, the original resume and your documents, in the order of the Sort files list.

Good to know

  • Documents and the original resume can go before or after the formatted resume. The formatted resume is first unless you move it.

  • The original resume is only added if it's a PDF or an image file. A Word original isn't added.

  • Files saved in a file field on the profile (for example references) can be attached too.

  • Attaching documents doesn't use extra credits.

Troubleshooting

  • "The PDF is encrypted, please upload an unencrypted PDF": the file is password protected. Save an unprotected copy and attach that.

  • The original resume doesn't show in the PDF: the original is probably a Word file. Attach a PDF copy with Select file instead.

  • You don't see Attach documents to the export: you're on a Word export. Start again with Export > Download PDF.

Common questions

  • How do I send a cover sheet followed by the candidate's original CV? Export as PDF and switch on Original CV / Resume. The original goes after the formatted resume.

  • Can the original resume go first? Yes. Drag "Original Resume" above "Generated Resume" in Sort files.

  • Can I attach documents to a Word export? No. Attachments work on PDF exports only.
