Who can do this: Owners. Only Owners can change the Job Board settings in the Bullhorn integration.
Product: Job Board
Where: Settings → Integrations → Bullhorn → Job Board settings → Applicants → Application source
Before you start: Bullhorn is connected to your Job Board. See Connect Bullhorn to your Job Board.
When an applicant from your job board goes to Bullhorn, Candidately fills the Source on the submission and, for new candidates, on the candidate. If you don't set anything up, both say Candidately. With source rules you can show where the applicant came from instead, like Indeed or LinkedIn.
What Bullhorn shows by default
With no source rules, every applicant arrives in Bullhorn with:
Submission source: Candidately
Candidate source: Candidately (new candidates only)
The same goes for any row or field you leave empty.
New and existing candidates
New candidate: Candidately creates the candidate with the candidate source, and adds a submission with the submission source.
Candidate already in Bullhorn: Candidately finds them by email. Their candidate source stays as it is. Only the new submission gets the job board source.
So to see where every application came from, look at the submission source, not the candidate source.
Tag your job links
The source comes from the utm_source tag on the link the applicant clicked. Add it to the job links you post on other sites, for example:
https://jobs.yourcompany.com/jobs/123?utm_source=Indeed
Candidately saves the tag with the application. The tag only shows in Bullhorn once you set up a source rule for it, or use [utm_source] in the Tag without a rule row (see below). Until then, the source is Candidately.
Set up source rules
Have these ready:
The utm_source tags you use on your job links (like Indeed, LinkedIn).
The source values your team uses in Bullhorn, so reports stay consistent.
Go to Settings → Integrations → Bullhorn and scroll to Job Board settings → Applicants.
Under Application source, click Add source rule.
Under utm_source tag, enter the tag exactly as it is on your link, like Indeed. Upper and lower case don't matter.
Enter the Submission source and Candidate source Bullhorn should get for this tag.
Repeat for each tag. Each tag can be in the table only once.
Fill the two rows at the bottom (see below), then click Save changes.
From then on, new pushes to Bullhorn use your rules. Applicants already in Bullhorn don't change.
Use [utm_source] to copy the tag
Type [utm_source] in a source field to insert the tag itself. Web Apply - [utm_source] becomes Web Apply - Indeed for a link tagged Indeed.
The two rows at the bottom
Tag without a rule | Used when the link has a tag but no rule matches it. Use [utm_source] here to catch new tags without adding a rule each time. |
No UTM tag | Used when the link has no tag, for example when someone finds the job on your own board. Leave it empty to use the Tag without a rule row without the tag: Web Apply - [utm_source] becomes Web Apply. |
An example
Link tag | Row used | Submission source in Bullhorn |
Indeed_Sponsored | Rule: Indeed_Sponsored → Website Apply - Paid | Website Apply - Paid |
Tag without a rule: Web Apply - [utm_source] | Web Apply - LinkedIn | |
No tag | No UTM tag: empty | Web Apply |
Good to know
Only utm_source sets the source. Other tags like utm_medium and utm_campaign are saved with the application but don't go to Bullhorn.
A submission source longer than 100 characters, or a candidate source longer than 200, is cut off.
Candidately uses the submission source to recognise submissions it made, so Push again doesn't add a second one. If you remove or change a source in the table, pushing an older applicant again can create a second submission.
Troubleshooting
The candidate source in Bullhorn didn't change
The candidate source in Bullhorn didn't change
The candidate was already in Bullhorn with the same email. Their candidate source is never changed. Check the submission source on the job order instead.
Bullhorn shows "Candidately" instead of my source
Bullhorn shows "Candidately" instead of my source
The link had no utm_source tag and the No UTM tag and Tag without a rule rows are empty, or the matching row has an empty field. Fill the row and click Save changes. Applicants pushed before the change keep "Candidately".
My rule isn't used
My rule isn't used
Check that the tag in the rule is spelled like the tag on the link, without spaces. Case doesn't matter. Open the applicant in Candidately to see the source that was recorded.
