Write a recruiter note on a job submission list

The recruiter note is your short pitch for a candidate, shown to your client on the candidate's profile. Type it yourself or start from a write-up Candidately drafts for you.

Who can do this: Anyone who can edit candidates on the list can write a note. Owners and Admins can change the AI prompt for the company.

How the AI write-up works

When a candidate is added to a list with AI-Generated Recruiter Notes on, Candidately writes a short write-up for them. You find it in Edit candidate under AI-generated candidate write-up, marked Beta.

What happens to it depends on the list setting Auto-save AI Recruiter Notes:

  • Preview AI notes first (the default): the write-up waits until you click Add as recruiter note.

  • Save AI notes to candidates immediately: the write-up is saved as the note straight away.

Auto-save only fills an empty note. If the candidate already has a recruiter note, for example one mapped from Bullhorn, the write-up waits for you.

The write-up is based on the candidate's parsed CV. If the list is connected to a Bullhorn job, it also uses the job title and description. It's written in the language of the CV. Read it before your client sees it.

Use or change the write-up

  1. Open the list and click Edit on the candidate.

  2. Scroll to AI-generated candidate write-up.

  3. No write-up yet? Click Generate AI-powered candidate write-up. Want a different version? Click Regenerate. To steer it, type an instruction in the box Ask AI to edit or generate….

  4. Click Add as recruiter note.

  5. Edit the note if needed, then click Update candidate.

For the rest of the edit screen, see Edit a candidate and the AI recruiter note.

Write the note yourself

  1. In Edit candidate, go to Recruiter note and type your note. Use the toolbar to format it. A note can be up to 16,000 characters.

  2. To polish your text, click Ask AI. It's available once the note has text.

  3. Click Update candidate.

Turn AI notes on or off for a list

In the list's List configuration > General, set AI-Generated Recruiter Notes to on or off, and choose Auto-save AI Recruiter Notes. New lists take these two settings from your company defaults under Settings > AI Recruiter note > Job submission list. See Settings you can change on one list.

Change the AI prompt

Owners and Admins only.

  1. Click your name at the bottom left, then Settings > AI Recruiter note, tab Job submission list.

  2. Edit AI-Generated Recruiter Note prompt to set the length, tone or what to cover. The default prompt asks for a short bullet-point write-up. Your prompt replaces it. Set back to default restores the original.

  3. Click Save changes.

The prompt applies to all job submission lists from the next write-up on. The AI-Generated Recruiter Notes and Auto-save AI Recruiter Notes options on this page are the defaults for new lists only. Change existing lists in their own List configuration.

Marketing lists and candidate profiles have their own prompt on the other tabs.

Good to know

  • To hide the note from clients on a list, remove the Recruiter note field from the list's Candidate appearance.

  • You can generate up to 10 AI responses per write-up.

  • AI works field by field. To turn interview notes into a recruiter note, paste them into the note and use Ask AI on that field.
