How the relevance score works

What the 0–100 score on each AI Search result means, why a good candidate can score low, and why scores only compare within one search.

Written by Jan Alexander Jedlinski

The relevance score is the number from 0 to 100 on each Candidate Search AI result. It ranks candidates within one search. It isn't a rating of the person.

Who this is for: Everyone who uses Candidate Search AI · Product: Candidate Search AI · Where: All candidates → AI Search → result card → score circle

What does the relevance score mean?

The relevance score shows how strongly a profile matches your current Candidate Search AI search, compared to the other results. Candidate Search AI sorts results by relevance, highest first.

Hover the score circle on a result card to see:

"Ranking aid, not a rating. Shows how strongly this profile matches your current search terms compared to other results. Read the profile before deciding."

Is the relevance score a percentage of requirements met?

The relevance score isn't a percentage of requirements met, and it isn't a judgement about the person. It's a ranking aid. Read the profile before deciding.

Can I compare relevance scores across searches?

You can only compare relevance scores within one Candidate Search AI search. A 60 on a broad search can be a stronger fit than an 85 on a narrow one. Change the search, or refine it, and the scores change.

Why does a good candidate have a low relevance score?

A good candidate usually has a low relevance score because one or more requirements aren't on their resume. Check the red crosses under the candidate's AI Summary: each one is a requirement the resume doesn't confirm. Missing from the resume doesn't mean the candidate lacks it.

To move the candidate up, remove requirements that aren't essential, or update an out-of-date resume. See Troubleshooting: too many results, or the top candidates aren't right.

Where can I read about the score in the app?

  1. On a result card, hover the score circle.

  2. In the tooltip, click What does this score mean?. A short guide opens in the app.

  3. Click Got it to close the guide.

Pro tip: Hover an item in the checklist under the AI Summary to see the evidence from the resume.
