Who can do this: Anyone with Candidate Search AI · Product: Candidate Search AI · Where: All candidates → AI Search → Filters sidebar
Use the Filters sidebar in Candidate Search AI to check and change what the AI understood from your search.
What does the AI fill in for me?
When you run a search, Candidate Search AI turns your text into four things in the Filters sidebar:
Skills
Work experience in years
Location
Ideal Candidate Brief
Everything else you write goes into the Ideal Candidate Brief: job titles, seniority, industry, employers and remote wishes. Candidate Search AI has no remote filter. Write remote wishes in the brief.
You can change every field. After manual edits, click Apply Changes at the bottom of the sidebar. To start over, click New Search at the top of the sidebar.
The Filters sidebar
Skills, Location, AI Search Context and Bullhorn filters, with Apply Changes at the bottom.
Skills & Competencies
Work experience in years is a range slider from 0 to 30+. Candidates outside the range are removed.
Skills get one card each. On each skill card you can:
Choose a level under Select experience: Low (0-3 years), Mid (4-6 years) or High (7+ years). Use it when depth in that skill matters, for example Java, High.
Make the skill required with the shield checkbox. Only candidates with the skill pass. When the skill is required, hovering the shield shows Remove required.
Exclude the skill with the crossed-circle checkbox (tooltip Exclude skill). Candidates with the skill are removed.
Leave both checkboxes off. The skill then helps ranking but removes nobody.
Work experience and skill cards
The slider sets the experience range, and each skill has its own card.
The experience level per skill:
The experience level on a skill card
Select experience offers Low (0-3 years), Mid (4-6 years) and High (7+ years).
The AND pill between skill cards switches to OR. With AND, candidates need every required skill. With OR, any one of them is enough. When you switch a group to OR, every skill in the group is set to required, and you see "All skills in the OR group have been set to required to maintain consistent group behavior." Add Group nests skills into groups with their own AND / OR.
Location
Enter a city, state, ZIP or address and select it from the suggestions. You can add up to 5 places. For each place, drag the radius slider. At the far left the slider shows Entire area: the whole city or region you named. Switch between miles and km above the field.
Candidate Search AI always includes candidates who are open to relocating to the place.
More: Location and radius.
The Location filter
Each place has its own radius slider, with miles or km above the field.
AI Search Context: the Ideal Candidate Brief
The Ideal Candidate Brief is free text. The tooltip says: "Describe your ideal candidate to give the AI additional context beyond your filters. The more relevant detail you provide, the better the match."
Candidate Search AI writes a first version from your search text. Edit the brief freely. Put in titles and their variations, seniority, industry, employers, remote wishes, and anything no filter covers.
Bullhorn filters
Bullhorn filters only show when Bullhorn is connected. Filter on the Bullhorn candidate fields your admin made available, for example Status, Owner, Source or custom fields. Click Add Filter, select the field, condition and value, click Done, then click Apply Changes.
A Bullhorn filter only returns candidates connected to Bullhorn. Candidates that exist only in Candidately drop out.
The brief, Bullhorn filters and Apply Changes
The Ideal Candidate Brief and Bullhorn filters sit at the bottom of the sidebar, above Apply Changes.
Should I use a filter or the brief?
Insist on a specific technology or certification: make the skill required.
Keep out a technology: exclude the skill.
Only people who work at a certain company now, or used to: write it in the Ideal Candidate Brief.
"Front end developer", "leadership", "fintech", "remote": write it in the Ideal Candidate Brief.
Only active candidates, or only your own candidates (with Bullhorn): add a Bullhorn filter.
Prefer but don't insist: leave the skill optional, or write it in the brief.
What happens after I change a filter?
Nothing changes until you click Apply Changes. Candidate Search AI then reruns the search and re-ranks the results with your edits.
Pro tip: Write job titles, employers and remote wishes in the Ideal Candidate Brief. There's no separate filter for them.
