Describe the role in the search bar on the All candidates page, check the filters the AI fills in, then improve the results with the refine bar.
1. Open AI Search
Click All candidates in the left menu. Make sure AI Search is selected in the toggle at the top. You see the start screen Search your candidates, with the search bar in the middle of the screen and the Filters sidebar on the left.

2. Describe the role
Type what you are looking for the way you would brief a colleague. The search bar says "Find candidates by skills, title, location, name, email…". Press ⌘+Enter (Mac) or Ctrl+Enter (Windows), or click the arrow, to run it.
Good examples:
"Senior Java backend engineer, 6+ years, Spring and microservices, Berlin or within 50 km, fluent German"
"Sales manager, B2B SaaS, 3 to 6 years, fluent German, Munich"
"Data engineer, Python and SQL, Snowflake and Airflow, 3–6 years, London"
A longer description works too. You can paste the requirements from a job description as your search.
A search typed as a short brief
Write the role, experience, key skills and location in one or two sentences.
To look up one person by name or email, switch the toggle to All candidates and use its search bar. It is faster than running an AI search for a name. Switching asks Leave AI Search results? and clears your current AI Search results and refinements. Click View All candidates to switch, or Stay in AI Search.
3. Check what the AI extracted
The Filters sidebar fills in automatically:
Work experience in years (for example 6 – 30+ years)
Skills, with the important ones marked Set as required
Location with a radius
Ideal Candidate Brief: a short text with the rest of the meaning (titles, industry, language)
Fix anything that is wrong before you go further, then click Apply Changes. Typical: a skill marked required that should be optional, or a location you did not mean.

4. Read the results
Results are ranked by relevance. Each card shows a relevance score and an AI Summary of how the profile fits your search. See How to read AI Search results.
5. Refine, don't restart
After the first run, the search bar moves to the bottom and becomes the refine bar. It says "Refine your search, e.g. "add Python" or "in Berlin"…". Type "add Kubernetes", "remove the location", "only candidates with banking clients": it updates the same search. New Search at the top of the Filters sidebar is the only thing that starts from zero.

To come back to a search later, click Copy Search URL at the top of the page and keep the link. Opening it reopens that search.
What makes a good search?
One clear sentence about the role plus 3–5 key requirements
Experience as a range ("3 to 6 years") rather than only "senior"
Mark 1–3 real must-haves as required, leave the rest optional
Add a realistic location or radius
What should I avoid?
Mark every skill as required
Use broad categories as required ("IT", "front end development")
Mix two different roles in one search
Expect precise results from "tech person"

Pro tip: Press ⌘+Enter (Mac) or Ctrl+Enter (Windows) to run a search without reaching for the mouse. It works in the refine bar too.
