The filter panel on the left is the structured version of your search. The AI fills it in from your text; you can change everything. After manual edits, click Apply Changes at the bottom of the panel.
Skills & Competencies
Work experience in years is a range slider from 0 to 30+. Candidates outside the range are removed.
Skills get one card each. Each card has:
Select experience: Low (0–3 years), Mid (4–6), High (7+). Optional. Use it when depth in that skill matters ("Java, High").
Required checkbox (the shield icon): a strict filter. Only candidates with this skill, or a direct synonym, pass.
Exclude checkbox (the crossed circle): a strict filter the other way. Candidates with this skill are removed.
Neither ticked: the skill is a positive signal for ranking, not a filter.
The experience level per skill:
AND / OR is the connector between skill cards. AND: candidates need to match each required skill. OR: any one of them. Switching a group to OR marks every skill in the group as required, because an OR group means "at least one of these must be present".
Add Group nests skills into groups with their own AND/OR, for example (Java OR Kotlin) AND (Spring OR Micronaut). See AND / OR and skill groups.
Location
Type a city, region, ZIP or address and pick it from the suggestions. Add more than one if you need to. Each location gets a radius slider (0 = "Entire area", up to 100) and you can switch between miles and km.
AI Search Context: the Ideal Candidate Brief
Free text. Describe the person: titles and their variations, industry, client type, soft requirements, anything no filter covers. The AI reads the meaning and uses it to rank. The AI writes a first version from your search text; edit it freely.
Bullhorn filters
Filter on any Bullhorn candidate field: Status, Owner, Source, custom fields. Add Filter, pick the field, condition and value, click Done, then Apply Changes. See Bullhorn filters.
Filter or brief? Which one to use
Insist on a specific technology or certification: skill, required
Keep out a technology: skill, exclude
"Front end developer", "leadership", "fintech": the brief
Only active candidates, only my candidates: Bullhorn filter
Prefer but not insist: skill, not required, or the brief
