AI Search: Filters

AI Search gives you powerful results right away, but sometimes you need more control, especially for roles with strict requirements. Advanced filters let you refine your search so the results truly match the specifics of the job.

This article explains each filter, how it works, and when to use it.

1. Work Experience

Use this filter to define the minimum and maximum total years of experience a candidate should have.

  • Set a lower range to exclude candidates who are too junior

  • Set an upper range to avoid overly senior or expensive profiles

Examples:

  • Mid-level roles: 3–6 years of experience

  • Senior roles: 6–12 years of experience

  • Leadership roles: often 10+ years, no maximum needed

The AI still understands the context of your search, but this filter ensures candidates fall within the right experience band.

2. Skills

Add the skills most important for the role and define which ones are essential.

For each skill, you can mark it as:

  • Required skills (“must-have”): Candidates must have these (or close synonyms) to be returned as matches. Required skills act as hard filters that restrict the candidate set.

  • Excluded/negated skills: Any candidate whose profile contains the excluded skill (or its synonyms) will be removed from results.

This gives you control while still benefiting from AI’s semantic understanding (e.g., JavaScript ↔ JS ↔ ES6).

💡Pro tip:

Use required skills sparingly; 1 to 3 is usually enough to keep the pool strong without over-filtering.

3. Location

Specify where candidates should be based, and how local they need to be.

You can:

  • Add one or more cities, regions, or countries

  • Set a radius around a location

This filter works particularly well for roles that require on-site or hybrid availability.

4. Additional Requirements

Use this free-text field to add any criteria that don’t fit neatly into the other filters.

Examples:

  • “Must have worked with enterprise customers”

  • “German speaking”

  • “Experience with FDA-regulated environments”

  • “Available for weekend shifts”

AI interprets this text just like your main search query, giving you more precision without needing complex logic.
